Artist Statement

For me the experience of the quilt has been one of discovery, a discovery over time, and a discovery that continues with each viewing because I can always find something new.

My attraction to quilting is about the pattern and visual texture created by the repeat of the quilt block across the surface of the quilt. It is what I have enjoyed most about traditional quilts and quilting.

I also have a fascination with the visual texture of fabrics and how cutting fabrics into pieces can change that visual texture.

Ultimately, for me it is the tactile and visual qualities of the quilting surface plus the combination of pieced fabrics that make quilting for me a very powerful creative experience.

What I offer through my designs is a personal expression of pattern and new variations of visual texture with roots in tradition. I wish for other quilters to discover the quilt and enjoy a visual experience of pattern and texture.
